LEAMINGTON UNITED MENNONITE CHURCH

LUMC is a member of Mennonite Church Canada.

Within MCCanada, LUMC is a member of the regional conference of congregations called Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (MCEC). MCEC meets two times per year in Ontario. The October session is a one day gathering and the April event is a weekend of business and worship.

Our congregation is formed by people with a variety of backgrounds. The main backgrounds are Russian and German from people who arrived in the Essex County area in the 1920’s and late 1940’s, as well as in the 1970’s from Mexico. But as our congregation grows, it gathers people with European, Asian and Latin American roots. This enriches the way in which our worship is developed, in ways of music, as well as in the ways in which people share their faith within and outside our congregation.

Throughout our history we have also had a strong commitment to higher education and to senior care.   United Mennonite Educational Institute is a vital ministry of our congregation where high school students are encouraged to integrate their faith with all of life.  Through the Mennonite Home we provide our seniors with professional multi-level care in a faith environment.  Both of these ministries depend on many faithful volunteers from the church and the wider community.
