TAGABAWA TRIBAL LEADERS WELCOME PBCI-CFP INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT TEAM

The Tagabawa Tribal Council of Barangay Alegre welcomed the Inclusive Development Team of PeaceBuilders Community, Inc. (PBCI) and Coffee For Peace (CFP) to establish a model coffee farm in their area. We went through the process of Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) as required by law. The municipal, provincial, and national authorities protecting the Indigenous Peoples’ rights gave their respective affirmations and blessings to this project.

WOMAN FROM BANAO INDIGENOUS PEOPLE IN KALINGA PROVINCE GRADUATES FROM PBSL

Wanay S. Baluyan, a native of Banao Indigenous People from Kalinga Province, is defending her final paper to conclude a two-year internship under the PeaceBuilders School of Leadership (PBSL) program. She’s a Registered Nurse and chose to serve her community and the Cordillera People in their journey towards genuine autonomy and self-determination.

A PARTICIPANT REFLECTS ON THE 2ND MENNONITE PEACEBUILDING CONFERENCE IN AMSTERDAM

Emil Jonathan “Jon” Soriano is a member of the Justice, Peace, and Reconciliation Commission (JPARCom) of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC). JPARCom, along with PeaceBuilders Community, have been laboring to promote peace and reconciliation between armed-conflicting parties in the Philippines. Jon attended the 2nd Global Mennonite Peacebuilding (2GMP) Conference and Festival held last 26-30 June 2019 in The Netherlands. He shared his reflection with us.

To further build upon the economic sustainability of our farming partners among Indigenous, Bangsamoro, and Settler communities, PBCI and CFP are building shared roasting facilities allowing our coffee farming partners to roast their own beans and sell directly into local markets.

JOJI ATTENDS TO HER RESPONSIBILITIES AS PEACE COMMISSION CHAIR OF MENNONITE WORLD CONFERENCE

Joji flew to Amsterdam to join her colleagues serving with the Peace Commission of the Mennonite World Conference (MWC). Their meetings were held back-to-back with the Global Mennonite Peacebuilding Conference and Festival. The highlight of her trip was the launching of the Global Anabaptist Peace Network.

DANN PANTOJA AND GORD ZERBE CO-TEACH “JUSTICE, PEACEBUILDING, AND A THEOLOGY OF STRUGGLE” AT CSOP 2019

At the 2019 Canadian School of Peacebuilding, Gordon Zerbe and Dann Pantoja teamed up in teaching “Justice, Peacebuilding, and a Theology of Struggle.” Gordon provided the theological and theoretical frameworks and analyses. Dann told field stories. Their 12 students came from 8 countries gathered in Winnipeg last 17-21 June.

MY GRANDCHILDREN MOTIVATES ME TO COMMIT TO PAR-BASED CLIMATE JUSTICE ACTIVISM

Peace and Reconciliation ministry is ultimately motivated by my love to the Creator, my service to Christ, and my submission to the Comforter. Yet, I have filial motivations for these vision, mission, and activities to which I’m committed — they are my family, especially my grand-children. What I’m doing now is a grandfather’s attempt to contribute to the care and sustainability of this planet for their future.
