WE VISITED EARTHQUAKE-AFFECTED FAMILIES JUST BEFORE NEW YEAR

It has been our joy to bond with our farming partners among the Bagobo Tagabawa Indigenous People in the Province of Davao del Sur who are affected by earthquakes. We delivered 3 water filter sets in Purok Balutakay, Barangay Managa, Bansalan last 21 December. Last 27 December, we delivered 5 sets of water filters in Barangay Almendras, Municipality of Padada. Then last 28 December, we distributed relief packs to 127 families in Purok Malipayon, Barangay Bansalan and another 65 packs to affected families in Barangay Binaton, Digos City.

“As of 24 December, more than 378,000 people are affected by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that occurred on 15 December in Davao del Sur,” reports the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). “The quake also caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure, with over 26,000 homes nearly 400 schools, and over 60 health facilities damaged, mostly in the Davao del Sur province,” OCHA adds.

With our limited resources, we’re focusing on our farming partners among a Settler’s community and among the Bagobo Tagabawa Indigenous People’s communities around Mt. Apo.

And so, during the Christmas Season, we did a series of relief distribution around Mt. Apo as a way of bonding and solidarity with our long-term inclusive development partners.

We are grateful to our partners in reaching out to these communities: Ateneo Law 88, Inc.; FCBAA Cavite Chapter; Impact Nations, and, Gemma Sicat & Friends. We will continue these outreach activities with these partners within the next two months as we listen to, and discern with, our partner communities. We’ll also add the resources of new partners and will include them in our next blog reports and social media posts.

Finally, in behalf of our PBCI-CFP Tribe, please allow us also to greet everyone A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We pray that for this coming 2020, we’ll have a clear perspective of Reality. We pray that even in the midst of calamities and hardships among our people, the Creator would open our hearts and minds to have a clear vision — hindsight, insight, and foresight — of our life as a network of interdependent communities.
