On August 10, 2021, in the quiet but determined atmosphere of a nation grappling with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Coffee for Peace, Inc. received a meaningful affirmation of its work. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) and the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) XI, awarded our company a Certificate of Recognition as the Regional Winner of the 2021 Productivity Olympics, Service Sector, Small Enterprise Category. This honor came during one of the most difficult years for small and medium enterprises across the country, making the recognition deeply significant.

The Productivity Olympics is the flagship national competition of the NWPC. It identifies and celebrates micro, small, and medium enterprises that demonstrate excellence in innovation, operational management, workforce engagement, and productivity improvement. Every year, the program spotlights enterprises whose practices uplift both their workers and their communities. What makes the competition unique is its focus on real-life resilience—how organizations continue serving, innovating, and caring for people despite economic and social disruptions. For 2021, the awards carried a special weight because they honored organizations that kept going amid the uncertainties of the pandemic.
The body behind this recognition—the NWPC under DOLE—plays a crucial role in our country’s labor and economic landscape. Its mandate is to strengthen productivity across industries while ensuring that workers benefit fairly from productivity gains. Together with regional tripartite boards, the commission offers training, consultancy, and awards programs that help build a culture of excellence among enterprises. When RTWPB XI chose Coffee for Peace as the region’s representative and winner, it affirmed that our commitment to peacebuilding, people-centered business practices, and sustainable livelihood was not only socially valuable but also operationally sound.

For us at Coffee for Peace, this recognition honored more than our systems and performance metrics. It honored our people. During the pandemic, we made a clear collective decision: We would preserve jobs, protect our staff, and continue serving farming communities as safely and consistently as possible. Our workers remained engaged and committed, even as mobility restrictions tightened, supply chains stalled, and market uncertainty loomed. This certificate acknowledges their courage, discipline, and loyalty.
It also reaffirms the heart of our mission: that a social enterprise rooted in peace, justice, and reconciliation can thrive—not by compromising its values, but by deepening them. We believe that businesses can be socially responsible, environmentally sustainable, and spiritually grounded while still pursuing excellence. The Productivity Olympics recognition strengthens this conviction.

This award reminds us of what perseverance looks like in times of crisis. As we look forward, it challenges us to keep improving our systems, empowering our workers, and strengthening our partnerships with farming communities across Mindanao and the rest of the country. Above all, it inspires us to continue embodying peace in every cup we serve and every relationship we nurture.
Maraming salamat to DOLE, NWPC, and RTWPB XI for this meaningful affirmation. We receive it with gratitude, humility, and renewed commitment to our people and our mission.
