Datu Pugawang’s Personal Vision & Mission Statement
Vision
To walk faithfully in the way of peace — where the Creator, being, community, and creation are embraced in harmony — and to help awaken the spirit of justice and compassion in our people and in the nations.
Mission
I seek to embody the way of Jesus and the example of St. Francis, while honoring the wisdom of my Indigenous ancestors.
I am called to nurture peace with justice by:
- cultivating inner harmony and spiritual depth as the source of outward action,
- living and teaching reconciliation across cultures, faiths, and political divides,
- advancing inclusive development and social enterprises that sustain life and dignity,
- mentoring younger leaders to carry Indigenous and spiritual wisdom into global challenges, and
- speaking truth with courage and compassion in the pursuit of justice, hope, and peace.

Dreams
Walking in the Way of Peace. My life is guided by a vision that is both personal and collective: to walk faithfully in the way of peace — where the Creator, being, community, and creation are embraced in harmony — and to help awaken the spirit of justice and compassion in our people and in the nations.
This vision is not merely an aspiration; it is the compass by which I navigate daily life. It grows out of my faith in the Creator, my deep respect for the wisdom of my ancestors, and my commitment to a global movement for justice and peace. I believe that true peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of harmony, dignity, and compassion woven into the very fabric of human and ecological relationships.
Embodying the Way of Jesus and the Model of Francis. My mission is rooted in a sacred calling: to embody the way of Jesus and the example of St. Francis, while honoring the wisdom of my Indigenous ancestors. These three sources — Jesus, Francis, and Indigenous wisdom — form a triad of inspiration that continually shapes my choices, my worldview, and my service to others.
- From Jesus of Nazareth, I draw the radical call to love my neighbor, to seek justice for the poor, and to confront systems of oppression with truth and compassion.
- From St. Francis of Assisi, I learn the discipline of simplicity, humility, and deep reverence for creation.
- From my Indigenous ancestors, I inherit the vision of interconnectedness — the knowledge that harmony with the Creator, community, and the land is essential to our collective survival and flourishing.
Nurturing Peace with Justice. My mission unfolds in practical commitments that I strive to live each day.
- Cultivating Inner Harmony and Spiritual Depth. I believe that outward action must be rooted in an inner life of peace. Without spiritual depth and self-awareness, activism becomes hollow and unsustainable. I seek to cultivate practices of reflection, prayer, and mindfulness that ground my work in authenticity and compassion.
- Living and Teaching Reconciliation. In a world fragmented by divisions of culture, faith, and politics, reconciliation is both urgent and necessary. I am committed to living and teaching reconciliation — building bridges across differences, creating spaces for dialogue, and fostering relationships of mutual respect.
- Advancing Inclusive Development and Social Enterprises. Peace cannot exist where poverty and exclusion persist. My mission includes advancing inclusive models of development, particularly through social enterprises that sustain both human dignity and ecological balance. Business, for me, is not just about profit; it is a tool for justice, empowerment, and the stewardship of creation.
- Mentoring Younger Leaders. The future belongs to the next generation. I am entrusted with the responsibility of mentoring young leaders — especially Indigenous leaders — to navigate modern challenges while carrying the wisdom of their heritage. I believe in equipping them to integrate spiritual depth with innovative responses to global realities.
- Speaking Truth with Courage and Compassion. Silence in the face of injustice is complicity. I seek to speak truth boldly, yet with compassion — to confront systems of exploitation, to expose falsehoods, and to call forth hope in the midst of despair. My voice is not for myself alone; it is for the communities whose struggles and dreams I represent.
A Journey of Hope. This vision and mission are not static statements; they are a lifelong journey. They remind me daily of the sacred responsibility entrusted to me as a peacebuilder, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a servant of the Creator’s dream for the world.
In walking faithfully in the way of peace, I hope to leave behind a legacy: not of wealth or power, but of harmony, compassion, and justice. My prayer is that the spirit of peace will awaken in every heart, in every community, and in every nation — until the Creator’s vision of salaam embraces the whole creation.
