Jeanryl Nice Gonzaga

Jeanryl Nice Gonzaga is a young student, community volunteer, and aspiring professional from Managa, Bansalan, Davao del Sur. She is currently studying Veterinary Technology at the University of Southern Mindanao, pursuing a field that reflects her interest in animal care, science, and service. She is the daughter of Andres and Rosie Gonzaga. Beyond her academic journey, she actively participates in community life and serves as an on-call staff member at Malipayon Peace Hub, contributing her time, energy, and skills to its various activities and initiatives. Jeanryl is a mentee of Joji Pantoja, President and CEO of Coffee for Peace, Inc. Through this mentorship, she is being encouraged to grow not only professionally, but also as a compassionate, community-oriented young leader. She has also participated in a local beauty pageant in Davao del Sur, giving her an opportunity to develop confidence, public presence, and a deeper appreciation of her community and culture.

The “Hawak ng Babae ang Kalahati ng Mundo” session provided a meaningful space for women and men from Indigenous Peoples (IP) and non-IP communities to reflect on gender roles, leadership, livelihoods, identity, and community life. Through participatory activities, participants examined the realities of their daily responsibilities and recognized the often-unseen labor and leadership of women in households, farming, coffee production, entrepreneurship, and community governance. The 5Rs Framework encouraged reflection on recognizing, reducing, redistributing, representing, and building resilience around shared responsibilities. Discussions on the Three Layers of Life and the Four Harmonies deepened participants’ understanding of purpose, well-being, relationships, spirituality, and stewardship of creation. The session also created opportunities for dialogue between IP and migrant communities, particularly on ancestral domain rights, coffee farming, economic cooperation, and peaceful coexistence. Ultimately, the gathering affirmed women’s vital contributions while promoting inclusive, respectful, resilient, and harmonious communities.
