Dann Pantoja is beginning to use his Tagalog indigenous name -- Lakan Sumulong. This is a statement that our indigenous identities can be a redeeming factor in healing our 'being' (that is, who we are as a people); help symbolize our determination to contribute what we ought to be 'doing' as a nation (that is--active, non-violent, radical transformation); and, determine how we will prioritize what we will be 'having' (that is, inclusive growth and national development based on justice and peace). Asked what fuels his positive outlook in life: “It’s the influence of Jesus, a first century Palestinian carpenter who was executed by the imperial power of his time. He said: ‘Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.’ Jesus defied the ultimate negative factor in our cosmos--death.”

MY REACTION TO PRESIDENT AQUINO’S SONA
The 2014 State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno S. Aquino III is very emotionally appealing. Many statements are true. Some numbers look good. Compared to the past administrations between the dark era of the Marcos dictatorship, through Arroyo’s arrest for plunder charges, his is relatively …

A PRAYER FOR ISRAEL, BASED ON THEIR BIBLICAL HISTORY
I’m saddened by the deaths happening in this conflict in Gaza. Here’s a report by The Guardian: Israel killed more Palestinian civilians in 2014 than in any other year since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip began in 1967, a UN report has said. Israel’s activities in the Gaza Strip, West Bank …

JUST WARS? NOT TRUE.
Billions of dollars are being spent as part of the war against just-peace so you’ll believe the systemic brainwashing campaign of the warmongers. They will continue to use war-theologies, war-ideologies, war-politics, war-economics, and war-culture to perpetuate their war-construct of reality. The revolution starts with our mindset: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be …

CHILDHOOD MEMORIES IN THE RICE FIELDS OF SANTA MARIA
This is the rice field in Santa Maria, Laguna where we used to play while the whole community joyfully plant rice in the rainy season or harvest during summer. Though my parents did not have the privilege of doing rice farming, my uncles and aunts allowed me to go with them primarily to play with …
