Dann Pantoja is beginning to use his Tagalog indigenous name -- Lakan Sumulong. This is a statement that our indigenous identities can be a redeeming factor in healing our 'being' (that is, who we are as a people); help symbolize our determination to contribute what we ought to be 'doing' as a nation (that is--active, non-violent, radical transformation); and, determine how we will prioritize what we will be 'having' (that is, inclusive growth and national development based on justice and peace). Asked what fuels his positive outlook in life: “It’s the influence of Jesus, a first century Palestinian carpenter who was executed by the imperial power of his time. He said: ‘Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.’ Jesus defied the ultimate negative factor in our cosmos--death.”

THE PHILIPPINES—ONE OF THE LEAST PEACEFUL COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD?
The Philippines is one of the least peaceful countries in the world according to the 2013 Global Peace Index (GPI). This is primarily because of the internal civil conflicts we’re facing. WHILE OUR PEOPLE IS IN POVERTY, WE’RE INCREASING OUR MILITARY SPENDING

THE ART OF TRANSCENDING OUR OWN CYCLE OF VIOLENCE
How do we transcend the cycles of violence that bewitch our human community while still living in them? This is the basic question in John Paul Lederach’s book, The Moral Imagination (2005). Moral refers to our mind’s capacity to create—to think, to reflect, and to act. Imagination refers to our capacity to generate constructive processes …

I’m excited! God’s new set of blessings are indeed wrapped in various degrees of challenges and seeming disappointments. And God is gracious and merciful! A PRAYER FOR THE WORKERS OF THE WORLD
God, today, the First of May, I resonate with the voices of the oppressed labourers around the world–whether they labour in urban areas or in rural areas. I pray that the greedy systems of this world that continue to exploit the workers would eventually be dismantled and be replaced by farming, trade and industrial relationships …

I’M PRAYING FOR THE DEMILITARIZATION OF THE PHILIPPINES
Between April 05 and 17, over 8,000 Philippine and American military personnel are participating in this year’s 29th Joint Exercises known as “Balikatan 2013”. Balikatan is a Pilipino term that translates to shoulder-to-shoulder. Both the US and the Philippine military forces make sure that they maintain inter-operability.
